WOODWARD 2301A 9907‑023
Product Description
The Woodward 2301A (9907‑023) is an analog electronic load‑sharing and speed governor for prime movers. It is a panel‑mounted, metal‑cased analog controller, not digital. It accepts magnetic pickup speed signal and CT power feedback, providing 0‑200mA analog output to drive fuel actuators. It supports both droop and isochronous governing modes, with front‑panel potentiometers for gain, reset, speed setpoint and droop adjustment. This model is fully obsolete by Woodward OEM production; available stock is non‑new, including used and refurbished units. Power supply is 20–40 VDC, designed for continuous operation in industrial and marine control cabinets.

Product Functions
- Closed‑loop speed regulation based on magnetic pickup (MPU) frequency signal
- Load sharing for multiple parallel generator sets via CT current feedback
- Selectable isochronous (zero droop) or droop speed control characteristic
- 0–200 mA proportional analog output for Woodward EGB, EA, UA and other fuel actuators
- Front‑panel analog adjustments: speed set, gain, reset, stability and droop
- Start fuel limiting and low‑idle configuration for engine startup sequence
- Speed‑signal loss protection: drives actuator toward minimum fuel when MPU signal fails
- Compatible with Woodward synchronizer modules for automatic paralleling workflows
Application Scenarios
- Diesel and gas engine driven generator sets for industrial stationary power
- Marine auxiliary generator parallel control panels
- Oil & gas compressor skids and offshore prime mover control systems
- Steam turbine and gas turbine generator speed and load control
- Legacy control system retrofits where original 2301A hardware must be retained
- Emergency and standby generator installations with multi‑unit parallel operation
Common Issues
- Engine speed hunting: misadjusted gain/reset potentiometers, noisy MPU signal or actuator backlash
- Poor or unbalanced load sharing: reversed CT polarity, mismatched CT ratios or incorrect load‑line wiring
- No or weak actuator drive output: ageing internal drive circuit, dry potentiometer contacts or loose terminal lugs
- Intermittent speed loss: excessive MPU air gap, contaminated pickup sensor or improper cable shielding grounding
- Drift of setpoint over time: worn front‑panel trim potentiometers from age and vibration
- Unstable operation under temperature variation: ageing electrolytic capacitors inside the analog board
- Non‑new unit risks: used/refurbished controllers require full bench calibration before commissioning; no factory new OEM stock available
