Product Description

Woodward TG-17 Mechanical-Hydraulic Speed Governor

Product Description

The TG-17 is a classic mechanical-hydraulic droop speed governor manufactured by Woodward, designed for steam turbine speed control. It integrates an internal oil pump and oil sump, delivers 17.5 lb-ft (23.7 N·m) output torque. It supports screw or lever speed adjustment, and is widely used for small and medium steam turbines where droop control is acceptable. This model is obsolete and mainly supplied as spare parts for maintenance and retrofit of old turbine systems.

Features

  • Mechanical-hydraulic droop governor, no electronic control required
  • 17.5 lb-ft (23.7 N·m) work output, maximum 40° terminal shaft travel
  • Built-in oil pump and oil reservoir, self-contained hydraulic system
  • Two speed adjustment types: screw setting and optional lever setting
  • Available in CW and CCW rotation versions, ATEX compliant options
  • Stable droop characteristic for parallel turbine load sharing
  • Robust cast iron / aluminum housing, suitable for high-temperature turbine compartments

Application Scenarios

  • Small and medium steam turbine speed regulation
  • Power plant auxiliary steam turbine and backpressure turbine control
  • Petrochemical and sugar factory steam turbine driving equipment
  • Legacy turbine control system overhaul and spare parts replacement
  • Units requiring simple mechanical hydraulic speed control without electronic governors

FAQ

Q: What is the difference between TG-13 and TG-17?
A: TG-13 output is 12 lb-ft, TG-17 is 17.5 lb-ft with higher torque capacity.

Q: Does TG-17 support isochronous constant speed control?
A: No, it is droop-only governor, not suitable for strict isochronous operation.

Q: Is TG-17 still in production?
A: It is an obsolete legacy model, only available as surplus and refurbished spare parts.

Q: What are the common faults of TG-17?
A: Internal oil leakage, sticking pilot valve, oil pump wear, unstable speed hunting and shaft seal failure.
