Product Description

National Instruments PXIe-5673E (781263-01) RF Vector Signal Generator

Product Description

The PXIe-5673E (781263-01) is a modular PXI Express vector signal generator (VSG) from National Instruments. This 3-slot assembly is composed of PXIe-5450 arbitrary waveform generator, PXIe-5611 I/Q modulator and PXIe-565x local oscillator module. It delivers RF output from 85 MHz up to 6.6 GHz with 100 MHz modulation bandwidth, onboard 128 MB waveform memory. It adopts PXIe high-speed bus and supports RF list mode and stream-from-disk continuous waveform playback. This legacy RF test module has been discontinued by NI, and available stock includes surplus and refurbished units for existing automated test system maintenance.

Product Functions

  • Generate standard and custom modulated RF signals including QPSK, QAM, FSK, MSK, AM, FM and multi-tone waveforms for RF component testing
  • Support cellular, WLAN, GPS, DVB and ZigBee wireless communication signal simulation with LabVIEW Modulation Toolkit
  • RF list mode function enables fast frequency and amplitude hopping for pulsed radar and burst communication test scenarios
  • Stream-from-disk capability supports ultra-long continuous waveform playback limited only by host storage capacity
  • High-precision local oscillator with low phase noise to guarantee signal spectral purity for sensitive RF receiver validation
  • NI-RFSG instrument driver provides programming APIs for LabVIEW, LabWindows/CVI, .NET and C++ test program development
  • Built-in self-test and self-calibration routines to verify hardware health and maintain output amplitude/frequency accuracy

Application Scenarios

  • Wireless transceiver production test and validation for WIFI, cellular, satellite and IoT communication modules
  • Aerospace & defense ATE systems for radar, navigation and avionics RF receiver functional verification
  • Semiconductor RF chip characterization for power amplifiers, filters and RF front-end components
  • Research laboratory wireless communication algorithm validation and physical layer protocol testing
  • Spare replacement for failed PXIe-5673E modules in legacy PXIe RF test racks
  • Preventive maintenance, system recalibration and spare inventory for test system integrators and manufacturing factories

Common Problems

  • Degraded RF output amplitude or poor spectral purity: LO aging, I/Q modulator drift or damaged front RF connector
  • Waveform playback timeout or list-mode failure: insufficient onboard memory, driver version mismatch or PXIe bus bandwidth bottleneck
  • No RF signal output: broken internal RF cable between modules, blown power fuse or AWG hardware fault
  • Trigger and synchronization instability: chassis clock quality issue, external reference signal abnormality or trigger line EMI interference
  • Self-calibration failure: temperature out of operating range, loose module insertion or degraded calibration components
  • Communication loss with PXIe controller: poor backplane contact, corrupted NI-RFSG driver or chassis firmware incompatibility
  • Maintenance limitation: end-of-life product, limited spare RF components and no official hardware repair service from NI
