1. Product Description

The RDIOR420 is a marine-grade remote digital input/output module manufactured by KONGSBERG, designed for KM series automation control systems on vessels and offshore installations. The unit integrates 16 programmable solid-state I/O channels and 16 relay contact channels, providing a total of 32 digital signal points. It supports redundant RBUS A/B communication bus with electrical isolation to resist harsh marine electromagnetic interference, adopting DIN rail mounting design for quick installation and replacement in control cabinets. The module complies with DNV marine classification standards and features built-in circuit fault detection for all signal loops.

2. Core Product Functions

  • 16 configurable solid-state channels, switchable between Digital Input (DI) and Digital Output (DO) modes, with short-circuit protection and real-time circuit diagnostic

4. Common Troubles & Issues

  • RBUS Communication Interruption

    Cause: Damaged bus cable, loose terminal wiring, grounding mismatch. Solution: Inspect dual RBUS wiring, re-tighten terminals and verify cabinet grounding standard.

  • Solid-state Channel Circuit Fault Alarm

    Cause: Field cable short circuit or broken wire, overload on DO channel. Solution: Disconnect field load, test loop continuity and replace damaged wiring.

  • Relay Output Fails to Actuate Load

    Cause: Relay contact burnout, insufficient supply voltage, wrong NO/NC wiring. Solution: Measure load voltage, swap spare relay channel and rewire contact terminals.

  • Module Cannot Be Recognized by Main RCU

    Cause: Incorrect module address configuration, bus power loss, incompatible KM system firmware. Solution: Reset module address, check bus power supply and upgrade controller firmware to matching version.

  • Random Signal Fluctuation & False Alarms

    Cause: Poor electromagnetic isolation, missing shield grounding, long unshielded field cables. Solution: Apply shielded signal cables and connect cable shield to cabinet ground.
