The Bently Nevada 3500/15 106M1081-01 is a Universal AC Power Input Module (PIM) for the Bently Nevada 3500 series machinery monitoring system. 

It's a key component that works in conjunction with the main power supply module to deliver power to the entire monitoring rack.

Function and Placement

The 106M1081-01 PIM is the physical connection point for the incoming AC power. It's a half-height module that gets installed in a designated slot at the back of the 3500 rack, 

directly behind the Bently Nevada 3500/15 Universal AC Power Supply Module (part number 106M1079-01).  The PIM itself doesn't convert the power, 

but it houses the necessary terminal block for the wiring and typically contains the input fuse to protect the system from overcurrent situations.

Redundancy and Hot-Swappability

For critical applications, two sets of power supply modules (a main module and a PIM) are installed in the 3500 rack to provide redundant power. 

This ensures that if one power supply fails, the second one can take over immediately, preventing a shutdown. Like the main power supply module, 

the PIM is hot-swappable, which means it can be replaced without powering down the entire rack, minimizing downtime for maintenance.
