NI PXIe‑1092 (784781‑01) 10‑Slot PXI Express Chassis
Product Description
The PXIe‑1092, part number 784781‑01, is a 3U 10‑slot PXI Express chassis manufactured by National Instruments (NI). It has 7 hybrid peripheral slots, 1 system timing slot and 1 peripheral expansion slot, with a maximum system backplane bandwidth of 24 GB/s. Each slot supports up to 82 W cooling capacity at 0–40°C and 58 W at 0–55°C. The universal 100–240 VAC power supply and modular fan unit support continuous operation in laboratory and industrial test environments. It conforms to PXI‑5 specification and can accommodate PXIe and hybrid PXI instruments, widely used as the mechanical and power backbone for modular test benches and hardware‑in‑the‑loop simulation systems, and available as spare replacement hardware.

Product Functions
- Provide mechanical housing, regulated power supply and high‑speed Gen3 PCIe backplane communication for installed PXIe measurement and control modules
- Hybrid slot design supports both PXI Express and legacy PXI instruments for flexible system configuration and upgrade
- Built‑in low‑jitter 10 MHz /100 MHz reference clock and trigger bus to achieve tight multi‑module synchronization
- Modular PWM cooling fans adjust speed automatically according to temperature to balance thermal dissipation and noise level
- System timing slot supports optional OCXO synchronization upgrade for inter‑chassis clock and trigger routing in multi‑rack systems
- Front‑panel status LEDs and rear monitoring signals display power, fan and thermal fault information for maintenance diagnosis
- Standard rack‑mount structure and removable filler panels maintain airflow and electromagnetic compatibility with empty slots
Application Scenarios
- Aerospace and defense hardware‑in‑the‑loop(HIL) real‑time simulation and avionics test platforms
- Automotive ECU, new energy battery and motor bench testing, CAN/LIN bus measurement and validation
- Semiconductor test equipment, high‑speed data acquisition and signal analysis systems
- Radar, wireless communication and RF signal generation, capture and protocol verification test benches
- Industrial machinery, power electronics and renewable energy converter performance testing
- Spare replacement and chassis upgrade of existing NI PXIe automated test systems
Common Problems
- Modules not detected by controller:loose module insertion, damaged backplane connector, incompatible PXIe controller or faulty power rail
- Over‑temperature alarm and fan warning:missing filler panels, blocked air intake, contaminated fan filter or failed cooling module
- Intermittent communication or synchronization errors:excessive slot power load, unstable reference clock, trigger cable damage or chassis ground noise
- Chassis powers on but no module power:AC input voltage out of range, internal fuse blown or power‑supply component aging
- High‑bandwidth performance degradation:mixing too many wide‑bandwidth modules, backplane resource bottleneck or outdated NI driver version
- Clock and trigger synchronization jitter:missing OCXO option, poor shielding, external reference signal distortion or multi‑chassis wiring error
- Random system crash under heavy load:insufficient slot cooling, accumulated dust inside chassis, long‑term thermal aging of power components
