Product Description

Woodward 8200‑1501 Peak200 Digital Turbine Controller

Product Description

The Woodward 8200‑1501 is a compact microprocessor‑based Peak200 digital controller for steam turbines, gas engines and generator sets. It integrates speed governing, load control, process loop regulation and machine protection functions within one panel‑mount unit. Equipped with local keypad‑display, multi‑channel analog/digital I/O and multiple industrial communication ports, it accepts magnetic pickup speed signals, sensor analog inputs and drive actuator outputs. Designed for harsh industrial environments, it complies with UL and CE standards for on‑site turbine control and genset automation.

Product Features

  • Precise speed governing and isochronous / droop load control for turbines and gen‑sets
  • Built‑in machinery protection: overspeed, underspeed, low pressure, high temperature trip logic
  • Local human‑machine interface: integrated keypad and LCD display for on‑site parameter adjustment
  • Multiple analog and discrete I/O channels for sensors, actuators and alarm relays
  • Supports Modbus TCP/RTU, Ethernet communication for DCS and SCADA system connection
  • Magnetic pickup (MPU) speed input for shaft speed measurement
  • Multi‑loop process control for pressure, temperature and auxiliary process regulation
  • Event log and fault history storage for post‑trip root‑cause analysis
  • Configuration via Woodward PC‑based configuration software
  • Panel‑mount housing; front panel IP65 rated for field cabinet installation

Application Scenarios

  • Small‑to‑medium industrial steam turbine governing and protection
  • Reciprocating gas engine generator set control in power generation plants
  • Cogeneration and combined‑heat‑power (CHP) unit automation
  • Oil & gas on‑site prime mover control systems
  • Marine auxiliary engine and turbine generator supervision
  • Industrial plant auxiliary turbine driving pumps, fans and compressors

Common Problems & Troubleshooting

  • No display / power failure: Verify 24 VDC power supply voltage and polarity; check terminal block tightness; inspect cabinet fuse status.
  • Zero or unstable speed reading: Inspect magnetic pickup sensor and wiring; check MPU air‑gap installation; use shielded twisted‑pair cable; rule out electromagnetic interference.
  • Unintended trip or protection alarm activation: Review trip setpoints in controller configuration; check sensor calibration and field signal wiring; inspect vibration‑induced loose terminals.
  • Actuator no response: Check output drive terminals; verify actuator type matches controller output configuration; inspect actuator coil integrity.
  • Communication failure to DCS/SCADA: Confirm network cable integrity; verify Modbus address, baud rate and protocol parameter matching; check IP address setting.
  • Cannot download configuration: Check PC‑controller communication cable; confirm software firmware version compatibility; clear configuration fault flags before download.
  • Controller overheating: Ensure cabinet ventilation; avoid direct heat radiation; remove accumulated dust from controller housing.
