Product Description

Bently Nevada 3300/81-050-00-00 3300 XL 5mm Eddy Current Proximity Probe

1. Product Description

3300/81-050-00-00 is a standard 5mm eddy current proximity probe belonging to Baker Hughes Bently Nevada 3300 XL transducer series. It works with matched 3300 XL triaxial extension cable and 3300 XL Proximitor sensor to constitute a complete non-contact displacement measuring system for rotating machinery protection and condition monitoring.

  • Model Code Definition
    3300 = 3300 XL proximity transducer product line;
    81 = 5mm probe series identifier;
    050 = integrated triaxial cable length of 0.5 meters;
    First 00 = no standoff adapter equipped;
    Second 00 = standard 3/8-24 UNF mounting thread without customized fittings.
  • Electrical Specifications: 5mm probe tip diameter, linear measurement range from 0.25mm to 2.25mm, fixed sensitivity of 7.87 V/mm, fully compliant with API 670 4th Edition industry standard.
  • Mechanical Structure: 303 stainless steel probe housing, PPS plastic probe tip, 75-ohm triaxial shielded integrated cable, built-in neoprene sealing O-ring, IP66 environmental protection grade.
  • Temperature Tolerance: Probe head operating temperature range -40℃ ~ +177℃; integrated cable ambient temperature range -40℃ ~ +100℃, suitable for high-temperature bearing housings.
  • Hazardous Area Certifications: ATEX, IECEx, CSA Class I Division 2 explosion-proof approvals, applicable to industrial areas with flammable gas hazards.
  • Interchangeability: All 3300 XL 5mm probes, extension cables and Proximitor sensors are fully interchangeable without recalibration after component replacement.

2. Core Product Functions

  • Shaft Radial Vibration Monitoring: Non-contact measurement of rotor relative vibration for oil-film bearing machines, used to diagnose rotor unbalance, shaft misalignment and bearing wear faults.
  • Axial Thrust Displacement Detection: Real-time tracking of rotor axial float to prevent thrust bearing pad ablation damage on gas turbines, steam turbines and centrifugal compressors.
  • Keyphasor Speed & Phase Reference: Captures rotor keyway features to output pulse signals, providing rotational speed and phase angle data for spectrum analysis of 3500 monitoring racks.
  • Static Gap & Eccentricity Measurement: Monitors static shaft eccentricity and rotor thermal expansion offset during unit startup and shutdown procedures.
  • Transducer Self-Diagnosis: Cooperates with Proximitor sensor to output fault signals including cable breakage, short circuit and over-limit gap to DCS safety interlock systems.
  • Machinery Trip Interlock Trigger: Transmits over-vibration and over-thrust displacement alarm signals to ESD systems to trigger automatic unit shutdown for equipment protection.

3. Typical Application Scenarios

  • Steam turbines, gas turbines, generators, large feedwater pumps and centrifugal compressors in power generation plants.
  • High-speed process compressors, turboexpanders and rotary separation equipment in petrochemical and refinery facilities.
  • Compact bearing housings with limited installation space where larger 8mm probes cannot be installed.
  • Hazardous chemical production zones that require explosion-proof machinery protection sensors.
  • Online condition monitoring systems matched with Bently Nevada 3500 series rack modules, used as maintenance spare parts for rotating equipment.

4. Common Issues & Troubleshooting

Issue 1: Proximitor reports probe cable break fault

Root Causes: Integrated cable cracking caused by repeated thermal cycling, loose triaxial connector, cable insulation corrosion by lubricating oil. Solutions: Inspect cable insulation integrity, fasten coaxial connector with specified torque wrench, replace the entire probe if internal wire core fracture occurs.

Issue 2: Unstable vibration signal with severe noise fluctuation

Root Causes: Installation gap outside linear measuring range, failure of single-point shielding grounding, metal debris attached to probe tip surface. Solutions: Adjust mounting gap to 0.8~1.2mm linear mid-range, implement single-point shield grounding at Proximitor end, clean metal contaminants on probe tip.

Issue 3: Missing Keyphasor pulse, no rotational speed reading

Root Causes: Excessive distance between probe tip and rotor keyway, oxidized conductive surface of keyway, internal short circuit of probe cable. Solutions: Reduce installation gap to ensure stable pulse triggering, polish rotor keyway metal surface, replace with spare probe for hardware fault verification.

Issue 4: Gradual static gap voltage drift after long-term operation

Root Causes: High-temperature aging of probe tip, bracket thermal expansion altering gap distance, oil coke deposits accumulated on probe head. Solutions: Remove coke contaminants on probe tip, recalibrate mounting gap after equipment cooling, replace aging probe if voltage drift exceeds 5% of full scale.

Issue 5: Invalid explosion-proof performance after disassembly maintenance

Root Causes: Damaged sealing O-ring during disassembly, scratched mounting thread leading to over-limit explosion-proof clearance. Solutions: Install matched neoprene O-ring during reassembly, tighten mounting thread per factory torque standard, avoid scratching explosion-proof thread surfaces.
