Product Description

ALSTOM ICP2 32 (029.359.325) Industrial Control Processor Board

1. Product Description

The ICP2 32, part number 029.359.325, is a rack-mounted high-performance control processor board manufactured by ALSTOM, belonging to the ALSPA 6000 drive and power control system platform, later inherited by GE Power Conversion. Equipped with a 225MHz industrial core processor, this VME backplane compatible board integrates digital I/O channels, multi-protocol communication interfaces, signal conditioning circuits and galvanic isolation modules. It adopts industrial-grade components with wide operating temperature range (-20°C ~ +70°C), IP20 protection rating, and anti-vibration & EMC anti-interference design for power plant, traction and heavy industrial harsh environments. Standard rack slot installation supports hot-swap maintenance without full system shutdown, with 24–48VDC wide-range power supply and compact PCB layout for cabinet integration.

2. Core Product Functions

  • Real-time high-speed operation of drive control algorithms: motor speed regulation, torque closed-loop control and generator power regulation
  • Onboard 8 digital input channels and 4 relay digital output channels for field switch signal acquisition and actuator driving
  • Multi-bus communication: VME backplane bus, CAN fieldbus, RS232 serial debugging port and Ethernet for HMI & upper SCADA data exchange
  • Full-loop self-diagnosis: detect power supply abnormality, channel short/open circuit, bus communication loss and upload fault codes to monitoring system
  • Safety interlock logic processing: implement overcurrent, overvoltage, overspeed and temperature protection interlock for power conversion equipment
  • Parameter storage & calibration: store drive configuration parameters locally, support offline and online parameter calibration via dedicated software
  • Galvanic isolation between field signal circuit and main processor to eliminate electromagnetic crosstalk interference
  • Hot-swap compatible, single board replacement without interrupting the whole control rack operation

3. Application Scenarios

  • Thermal, hydro and nuclear power plant medium/high voltage drive control, generator excitation and grid synchronization systems
  • Rail transit traction control system for metro, light rail and high-speed train auxiliary power unit (APU)
  • Offshore platform power conversion, marine vessel propulsion drive and dynamic power load control
  • Metallurgical rolling mill, mining heavy-duty motor variable frequency drive control cabinet
  • Industrial ALSPA DCS automation system core logic processing unit for chemical and energy storage plants

4. Common Troubles & Issues

  • VME Backplane Communication Failure

Cause: Dirty PCB golden fingers, loose rack slot contact, abnormal backplane power voltage. Solution: Clean golden fingers with industrial cleaning cloth, re-seat the board tightly and test rack 24/48VDC power supply.

  • Drive Output Out of Control & Abnormal Motor Speed

Cause: Corrupted control algorithm parameters, damaged analog sampling circuit, aging I/O terminal wiring. Solution: Restore factory parameter backup, re-calibrate sampling channels and replace aged signal cables.

  • CAN Bus Disconnection Alarm

Cause: Missing 120Ω bus terminal resistor, damaged CAN cable, inconsistent node address configuration. Solution: Install matching terminal resistor, inspect shielded bus wiring and unify module station address.

  • Module Overheating & Random Automatic Reset

Cause: Cabinet ventilation blockage, PCB dust accumulation, long-term full-load operation. Solution: Clean PCB dust, repair cabinet cooling fan and optimize control loop cycle.

  • Digital Output Relay Fails to Actuate Load

Cause: Onboard relay contact burnout, overload load current, wrong NO/NC wiring. Solution: Measure load current, switch to spare output channel and rewire field terminals.

  • Intermittent Signal Loss Under Vibration

Cause: Loose terminal blocks, unsecured signal cables, poor shielding ground connection. Solution: Lock all wiring terminals, fix cables with cable ties and connect cable shield to cabinet protective ground.
