Allen-Bradley 1785-L40C15 PLC-5 ControlNet Processor Module
Brief Product Description
Allen-Bradley 1785-L40C15 is a PLC-5/40C ControlNet processor for Rockwell PLC-5 platform, equipped with 48K words user memory and built-in ControlNet communication port. It is installed in the 1771 series rack as the main controller to execute ladder logic, PID control and sequential control. This CPU supports hot backup redundancy function when paired with 1785-CHBM memory cartridge and 1785-BCM backup communication module, realizing bumpless switchover between primary and standby controllers. It can scan local 1771 I/O and remote I/O over ControlNet network, and communicate with HMIs, other PLCs and ControlNet field devices. Lithium battery backup preserves user program and data upon power failure. Fully tested surplus and refurbished Allen-Bradley 1785-L40C15 modules are available for legacy PLC-5 redundant system maintenance, CPU replacement and plant automation retrofit projects.

FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions)
- Q: CPU major fault or ControlNet communication breakdown after installing 1785-L40C15?
A: Verify firmware revision consistency, check lithium battery status, inspect ControlNet cable, terminating resistors and shielding, confirm backplane contact integrity and PLC program configuration. - Q: Does Allen-Bradley 1785-L40C15 support hot-swap replacement?
A: Hot swap is not supported. Back up PLC program and parameters, power off the 1771 chassis and perform lockout-tagout before replacement to avoid unexpected I/O action and process disturbance. - Q: What network interface does 1785-L40C15 have?
A: It integrates a native ControlNet port for deterministic control network communication. - Q: What accessories are required to build redundancy with this CPU?
A: Each CPU needs 1785-CHBM hot backup memory cartridge and paired 1785-BCM backup communication module. - Q: Is Allen-Bradley 1785-L40C15 available for new automation projects?
A: This legacy PLC-5 ControlNet processor is end-of-life for new installations. Only fully tested surplus and refurbished units are supplied for existing redundant system maintenance and retrofits.
