Product Description

ABB NDCU‑33CX Product Description

The NDCU‑33CX (part‑number 3AUA0000052751) is rotor‑side converter control unit for ABB ACS800‑67/67LC doubly‑fed wind turbine converters. It is assembled unit built with AMC‑33CX processing board and NIOC‑02C I/O board inside metal housing. As core controller for doubly‑fed generator rotor converter, it executes generator vector control, torque regulation, protection logic, fault diagnosis, and communicates with power stages via fiber‑optic links. This unit does not include application firmware; matching wind‑turbine software (AJXC2210 or later revision) must be loaded after replacement. It is widely used as critical spare part for on‑shore and offshore wind farm retrofit & maintenance projects.

Product Features

  • Complete rotor‑side drive control unit for ABB DFIG wind power converter ACS800‑67‑series
  • Consists of AMC‑33CX main processing board plus NIOC‑02C digital/analogue I/O interface board, enclosed in metal casing
  • Fiber‑optic communication interface, galvanically isolates control electronics from high‑power IGBT power modules, strong EMI immunity
  • Executes doubly‑fed induction generator vector control, rotor torque control, grid‑compliant power regulation function
  • Rich hardware I/O terminals for turbine safety‑chain, sensor signals and external interlock connections
  • Comprehensive drive self‑diagnosis, records fault history, trip codes and runtime data for troubleshooting
  • Requires dedicated wind‑turbine application firmware AJXC2210 or higher; hardware alone cannot run without software download
  • IP20 protection grade, cabinet‑mount installation; gross weight 1.84 kg, original manufactured in Finland / Estonia / Thailand

Application Scenarios

  • On‑shore wind farm ABB ACS800‑67 doubly‑fed converter rotor‑side control cabinet
  • Off‑shore wind turbine DFIG power conversion system control spare‑part replacement
  • Wind‑turbine unit overhaul, retrofit and upgrade projects for existing ABB converter fleet
  • Wind‑power plant condition‑based maintenance, fault module exchange and commissioning work
  • Projects using ACS667 cascade converter systems compatible with NDCU‑33CX hardware platform
  • Spare‑part inventory for wind‑farm O&M contractors servicing ABB DFIG turbines

Frequently Asked Questions

Q1: What is the difference between NDCU‑33C and NDCU‑33CX?

A1: NDCU‑33CX is upgraded hardware revision of NDCU‑33C; mechanical form‑fit compatible, but firmware version AJXC2210 or newer is mandatory for CX variant, old software revisions will not boot correctly.

Q2: Can NDCU‑33CX work directly out‑of‑box after hardware swap?

A2: No. The unit ships without application firmware. You must download correct wind‑turbine DFIG application software and project‑specific parameters before commissioning.

Q3: Converter reports fiber‑link communication fault, what should be checked?

A3: Inspect optical fiber cables, fiber end‑face cleanliness, APBU optical branching unit status, NDCU‑33CX 24 VDC auxiliary power supply and power‑unit AINT‑board condition.

Q4: Is hot‑swap allowed for NDCU‑33CX while wind turbine stays online?

A4: Hot‑swap is not permitted. De‑energize both control power and converter high‑voltage power, follow ABB wind‑turbine maintenance safety procedure before module replacement.

Q5: What handling & storage precautions apply for NDCU‑33CX?

A5: Anti‑static wrist strap must be used during disassembly‑assembly. Store in dry, low‑humidity environment; protect optical ports from dust contamination; retain original anti‑static packaging for spare‑part stock keeping.
