Product Description

ABB 1MRK002816‑AB (RET670) Numerical Transformer Protection IED

Product Description

1MRK002816‑AB is the ABB RET670 intelligent electronic device (IED) from the Relion protection series, a high‑performance numerical relay dedicated to power transformer and shunt reactor protection. It adopts dual‑CPU industrial hardware architecture, integrated high‑precision signal sampling circuits, local LCD human‑machine interface and multiple communication ports. The relay is installed in substation control cabinets, complies with IEC 61850 and international power protection standards, and realizes protection, measurement, control and fault recording in a single compact unit for high‑voltage power transformation equipment.

Product Functions

  • Transformer differential protection, overcurrent protection, earth‑fault protection and over‑voltage/under‑voltage protection
  • Real‑time measurement of current, voltage, active/reactive power, frequency and transformer winding temperature
  • Circuit breaker control, remote switching operation and interlock logic configuration
  • Fault event recording, disturbance waveform capture and historical alarm data storage for post‑fault analysis
  • Ethernet and serial communication supporting IEC61850, IEC103 and Modbus protocols to connect with SCADA and substation automation systems
  • Continuous built‑in self‑diagnosis for hardware failure, CT/PT circuit anomaly and internal component faults

Application Scenarios

  • Primary and secondary power transformers in high‑voltage power substations
  • Power plant main transformers and auxiliary transformer protection systems
  • Shunt reactors and large‑capacity distribution transformers in power grids
  • Industrial heavy‑load power distribution stations for petrochemical, mining and metallurgy plants
  • Wind farm and solar power station step‑up transformer monitoring and protection cabinets

Common Problems

  • Incorrect differential protection operation or false tripping: CT wiring error, inconsistent CT characteristic parameters, DC component saturation or wrong relay setting values.
  • Communication interruption with SCADA system: Damaged Ethernet cable, loose optical/electrical connectors, firmware incompatibility or network storm interference.
  • No measured value or abnormal current/voltage reading: Broken CT/PT secondary wiring, short‑circuited transformer circuit or aging signal acquisition board.
  • LCD display black screen or keypad failure: Unstable 24VDC control power supply, display driver damage or front‑panel circuit aging.
  • Failed fault waveform recording or missing event logs: Internal memory chip degradation, sudden power loss or configuration file corruption.
