Product Description

EMERSON A6220 (9199-00009) AMS 6500 Dual-Channel Shaft Eccentricity Monitor

Brief Product Description

Emerson A6220, part number 9199-00009, is a 3U single-slot plug-in TSI machinery protection module for the AMS 6500 / CSI 6500 Machinery Health Monitor system (former EPRO). It is specially designed for shaft eccentricity (shaft bow) measurement on large rotating machinery. It works with EPRO eddy current probes PR6422, PR6423, PR6424, PR6425 and matching CON series drivers. The dual channels monitor rotor bending mainly during turning gear, startup and shutdown phases of steam turbines, to prevent rotor-stator rub damage. It complies with API 670, provides buffered signal outputs, 0/4-20mA or 0-10V proportional analog outputs, configurable alarm and trip relay outputs, and comprehensive self-diagnosis for sensor and hardware faults. Galvanic isolation enhances EMI immunity. Fully tested surplus and refurbished Emerson A6220 (9199-00009) modules are available for legacy AMS6500 TSI system maintenance, replacement and plant retrofit projects.

Core Product Functions

  • Dual-channel shaft eccentricity / rotor bow monitor for AMS 6500 machinery protection system
  • Compatible with EPRO eddy current probes and matching drivers for non-contact shaft displacement measurement
  • Measure slow-roll eccentricity and thermal bow of turbine rotors during turning gear, startup and coast-down
  • Front and rear buffered signals, 0/4-20mA current or 0-10V voltage proportional outputs for DCS connection
  • Configurable alarm and trip relays, remote trip bypass and limit multiplier via Modbus / AMS Suite software
  • Per-channel self-diagnosis to detect probe gap faults, sensor open/short circuit, hardware and temperature faults
  • API 670 compliant, galvanic isolation between sensor excitation and system power for high EMI resistance
  • 3U single-slot plug-in module for AMS6500 rack, supports hot-swap operation
  • Transmit real-time eccentricity data and machine health status to AMS Suite for trending and protection logic

Application Scenarios

  • Legacy Emerson AMS6500 / CSI6500 TSI machinery protection system
  • Thermal power plant steam turbine rotor eccentricity and thermal bow monitoring and protection
  • Petrochemical, refinery large centrifugal compressor slow roll and rotor bow monitoring
  • Oil & gas, pulp & paper high-speed rotating equipment startup protection
  • Hydro turbine, large fan and generator rotating machinery safety interlock protection
  • Legacy TSI module replacement, maintenance and plant machinery protection retrofits

FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions)

  • Q: Eccentricity reading abnormal or gap voltage error after installing A6220?
A: Verify eddy current probe and driver model match A6220, check probe cable integrity, calibrate probe gap voltage, inspect backplane contact, shielding grounding and AMS6500 configuration.
  • Q: Does EMERSON A6220 (9199-00009) support hot-swap replacement?
A: Yes, it is hot-swappable. Risk assessment and LOTO lockout-tagout must be performed before replacement to avoid false machine trip.
  • Q: What sensors does A6220 support?
A: EPRO eddy current probes PR6422, PR6423, PR6424, PR6425 with CON series driver units.
  • Q: What is the difference between A6220 and A6110?
A: A6110 is for shaft relative vibration measurement; A6220 is dedicated for shaft eccentricity / rotor bow monitoring during slow speed turning gear.
  • Q: Is EMERSON A6220 (9199-00009) available for new protection projects?
A: This legacy AMS6500 TSI module is end-of-life for new installations. Only fully tested surplus and refurbished units are supplied for existing machinery protection system maintenance and retrofits.
